In the following lessons who are going to be learning about the popwer struggle that took place over the English throne in 1066. By the end of the enquiry you should be able to describe the main events of that power struggle. However, you should also be able to explain why we can't be certain about everything that happened.

Work in groups of 3 to produce a clear overview of the main events of 1066. You will be given a sheet of presentation paper, a map and some battle diagrams. You will research the events of 1066 as a group and build up a detailed picture of what happened including,

5. Debrief
- Using pages 60-63, Look at the Bayeux Tapestry through pictures and work out whether it tells the Norman Version or English version of the story.
- Firstly, look at the scene of the Bayeux Tapestry on page 60 & 61 and write in the different sentences (P.61) onto the evidence frame: What does this picture tell you.pdf. You should also try to add your own questions.
- Once you have discussed this look at the other scenes on page 62-63. Complete the activity.
4. Who told the truth about 1066?
- In this lesson you are going to read two versions of the events of 1066 by and English monk and Norman monk and decide who you think was telling the truth.
- Choose one of the monks to work on in pairs and complete the activity on page 64. What do you think they will say?
- Read the evidence of John of Worcester by your self once through then look at the questions on page 67. Re-Read the passage and look for the answers making a note of them in the back of your book.
- Your teacher will discuss the answers with the class and then give you this sheet What did Guillame, the Norman monk, say about 1066.pdf so that you can compare Guillaume's account from page 68
- Were you right about what each monk would say?
- Plenary: match the endings A-F to the correct starters and correct monk on page 70
