- Get into small groups - no more than 3 or 4. Discuss what you think are the most important skills and qualities that make people great leaders. Consider why you think each one is important.
- From your list select 8 skills or qualities that you believe are the most important.
- Each skill/quality will then make up a slice of the pizza shape. Label your own diagram with the items you have selected.
- Share your drawings with the other groups and explain which labels have been chosen and why. You may discuss certain decisions and identify common patterns in the group's perception of a good leader.
- Assess Yourself on a scale of 10 (You are excellent in this area) to 1 (you need to develop this area) for each slice. (10 is the edge if the slice, 1 is the core of the pizza).
Final Thoughts: Discussion - consider the following statements
- Someone has to be born a leader
- Everyone is a capable leader
- You can learn qualities that will make you a more effective leader
- Leadership is not a bunch of traits inside an individual
- If someone has all the listed qualities of a great leader, that doesn’t make them a leader
- A true leader, leads from the behind
- Leadership is the traits people have – the traits they were born with
Extension Task: Who do you admire?
