The BIG STORY OF YEAR 9: increasing interconnectedness brings both benefits and costs
The increasing violence of the Twentieth Century was caused by a number of factors that worked together to create many violent events such as the First and Second World Wars, The Bolshevik Revolution and The Cold War.
The factors that we will explore over the next few weeks are;
1. Industrialisation and its impact on warfare.
2. Empire, Imperialism and rising Nationalism
3. Technological developments
We will use 2 main events to explore these factors and their impact: The First World war and the Bolshevik Revolution. You can see the overview of the Unit of study and the driving questions in the document below.

WHAT: The Industrial Revolution
HOW: Investigating the Industrial Revolution using evidence & Reflecting on how the Industrial Revolution impacted warfare
WHY: To understand the major change in society and the economy in the late 19th Century and how that led to more tension and greater weapons of mass destruction.

This work should be completed by Monday 4th May. It should take you roughly 2 hours. You should work through the tasks below in your own time and pacing.

Research into the causes of the Industrial revolution
Iron had been used for over 3000 years by human beings, however it was in the 1730's that the true potential of Iron as a material were realized. How would these changes affect human progress over the next 150 years?

It provided the means by which the increasing quantities of raw materials from Britains empire could be turned into finished products by making the supply chain more interconnected and efficient.
